As we all know, you have got to have auto insurance if you plan to drive. That is just a fact of life. More than that, it is the law. However, there is no reason that you have to break your budget to insure your car. There is absolutely no reason for you to completely drain your bank account. Many people think that this is the only option, due to ever increasing insurance rates. However, that does not have to be the case. There are plenty of things you can do to get lower rates. The best news of all is that the majority of them are exercises in simplicity itself.

How can you begin by saving money on your insurance? You can start out by thinking about buying policies which are good for six months. Why? Because then you can pay it up all at once. Lots of companies offer discounts when you pay your policies in full.

When you miss a monthly, yearly, or bi annual payment, that can be really bad. Try your best not to do that. One way to avoid this problem is allowing your insurance company to take the payment out of your bank account. You can also have them do this with a credit card, but... that might not be the best option, unless you can pay off your card every single month too. Otherwise, you could get stuck with a lot of interest in the bargain.

A great way to save on your car insurance as well is simply by letting your insurance company know that you have anti-theft devices on your car! There are many insurance companies now-a-day especially that are offering all sorts of discounts for that!

Having more than one vehicle can be helpful as well - if they are all insured with the same company, that is. Once again, many companies will cut you a deal in this case. The same is true if you have other insurance policies with that company, like renters insurance or home insurance.

You need to be careful and make sure that you do not currently have a lot more coverage than you actually need. For instance, do you have insurance on a car that you have not been driving? Do not be afraid to cancel that policy, then. Keep up on what you need versus what you have. Go over your policy with your insurance agent at least one time each year.

You also cannot discount the importance of driving safely. You need to avoid everything from speeding tickets to parking violations. These can really drive up the cost of your insurance, and they stay on your record for quite a while.

Last but not least, make sure that you never let your policy lapse. That is why it is a good idea to let your company take the money each month, or to pay a six month policy all at once.
